Role Description

The role will be responsible for providing actuarial support across the business, in particular, the assessments of the Group’s best estimate reserves. This will include the reserving assessment for the Group’s risk carriers as well as working closely with our Lloyd’s Managing Agent as part of the Group’s Syndicate reserves. The position will play a key role in the reporting of the Group’s financial results to the wider business, including the Executive Management Team and Board.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Group’s Claims, Finance, Data & Analytics, and Business Generation teams, as well as the wider Actuarial team. The role will support the growth of the Group and the demand for actuarial support across the business.

 

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the production and consolidation of the reserving assessments across the Group, reporting directly to the Chief Reserving Actuary.
  • Production of reserving papers for the Boards of the regulated entities, including the presentation of results during Board meetings.
  • Drafting of Actuarial elements of the broader Group Board and Shareholder papers.
  • Work closely with the Claims and Finance teams as part of the reserving submissions. In particular, this will include leading day-to-day interactions with the claims team to improve the overall Group reserving position.
  • Work closely with the Data & Analytics team to drive the use of technology to create efficiencies and additional insights for the business within the reserving process.
  • Working with our Lloyd’s Managing Agent to assess Syndicate reserving requirements and managing the day-to-day relationship with the Managing Agent.
  • Leading the onboarding and integration of new acquisitions into the existing reserving processes through engagement with the wider business.
  • Lead the annual audit process for the Group and Risk Carriers.
  • Supporting the team and wider business through one-off process improvement projects.
  • Coaching and providing technical review for other members of the Group reserving team, as well as supporting their growth and wider career development.
  • Manage and support the actuarial team in relation to the onboarding of future joiners.

 

Experience and Key Skills Required
  • Be a qualified actuary with 5+ years’ experience within reserving in the non-life insurance/reinsurance sectors.
  • Have strong report drafting and communication skills, paying attention to detail, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Able to build strong relationships and work effectively with a number of different teams across the Group, including the upwards management of senior stakeholders.
  • Have good organisation and time management skills, be able to manage different and moving priorities, and diligently take ownership of multiple workstreams.
  • Be personable, a strong team player and support the coaching and career development of other members of the Group reserving team.
  • Be forward-looking, flexible, and able to adapt to being part of a growing business, including leading the onboarding and integration of new portfolios into the reserving process.
  • Be curious and innovative in embracing change and using technology to drive efficiencies and create additional insights for the business within the reserving process.
  • Have strong commercial awareness, including the ability to understand the impact of key business decisions on the financial position.
  • Excellent IT skills including a high proficiency in Excel. The successful candidate will ideally be proficient in ResQ, although this is not an essential requirement for application.
