Job Purpose Summary:
  • Responsible for certain aspects of the financial accounting and internal controls for the Syndicate and the company business units. Involvement in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of existing reporting practices as well as creating, developing, and documenting new practices.
  • To support the book-keeping, cash reconciliation, recording of technical transactions, and related tasks in support of the Syndicate Finance Manager, whilst building the knowledge and experience to be able to take on further responsibility for further accounting tasks.
  • Assisting in Lloyd’s regulatory returns.

  • None

 

 Key Responsibilities:
  • Working alongside the Syndicate Finance Manager, and the company business units to help deliver regulatory, statutory, and management reporting of the Syndicate’s financial performance.
  • Preparation of technical and non-technical journals.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Preparation of quarterly audit file.
  • Assisting of Lloyd’s returns (QMA, QMB, GQD, QSR, QAD, ASR, AAD, Overseas regulatory returns, Syndicate tax returns).
  • Assisting in Syndicate Annual and Underwriting Accounts.
  • Liaise with reinsurance and actuarial teams within the company.
  • Liaise with auditors and external clients as necessary.
  • Provide ad hoc support to other members of the company finance team as directed.
  • Support the team in delivering to its timetable.
Key technical skills
  • Good grasp of fundamental accounting principles.
  • Sound knowledge of IT systems in use within the company accounting function – especially Excel, Sun Accounts, InfoQA/Sharperlight.
Risk Management
  • Accountable for the effective management of owned controls. Perform these controls with the help of the company Syndicate finance team.
  • Work with the company Syndicate finance team to understand the key risks within Finance, manage the processes and controls to mitigate these risks.

  • Ability to produce consistently accurate work to tight deadlines, with a strong eye for detail.
  • Ability to work in an orderly and well-organised fashion.
  • Willingness to learn and put in extra effort when circumstances require.
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Team player, with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Part-qualified, studying towards CIMA/ACCA/ACA.
