Galejay is currently recruiting on behalf of a top 5 Lloyd’s underwriter for an experienced and driven IT Operations Manager to own, run and transform the day to day operations of IT. 

This includes managing the IT service desk, IT infrastructure, and technical architecture, as well as owning support and the upkeep for all of their applications.

The successful candidate will drive innovation and automation through proactive management and intelligent reporting. They will take a strategic approach, look at future trends and be an excellent partner to the business. 

Whilst this is a senior role within their department, the successful candidate will very much be involved in day-to-day operational issues and resolution.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a well-functioning IT team and take it to the next level of maturity and best practice. 


Duties and accountabilities
  • Oversight and ownership of all on-premise and Cloud hardware infrastructure
  • Accountable for the daily operation and effective delivery of all IT services
  • Responsible for designing, implementing and delivering IT operational change, including modernisation of the team
  • Strategic oversight of the IT Operations function, comprising of IT Services and IT Infrastructure
  • Responsibility for performance of third party vendors and IT outsourcing partners, as well as maintaining the IT Operations budget including all BAU IT run costs
  • Overall responsibility for the provision of the Enterprise Data Platform
  • Development and control of IT procedures including systems and user documentation
  • Wholly accountable for the support and development of the IT Operations Team; driving the team forward to deliver new processes (where applicable) and best practice


Skills, knowledge and experience
  • Be technically competent with good knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Systems administration and setting up IT systems
    • Citrix
    • Microsoft Azure (including admin portal and billing), 365, Windows and Active Directory
    • Telephony 
    • VMware and Cyber security
    • Datacentre and DR operations
    • Networking – LANs, switches, firewalls and patching
    • Databases (SQL Server preferred)
  • Be an exceptional communicator and influencer, and have a proven track record of managing a successful team
  • Be self-motivated with a proactive approach, and able to develop strong relationships inside and outside the team
  • Be aware of cloud based data technologies, especially those in the Microsoft stack, such as Synapse and Data Factory
  • Have knowledge/accreditation of ITIL or equivalent practice
