Reporting to: Syndicate Accounting Manager


The role

The individual will maintain the general ledger for syndicates. The role requires acting with integrity, with due skill, care and diligence, as well as being open and co-operative with auditors, Lloyd’s, FCA, the PRA and other regulators.   


Main responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger and financial reporting systems for the syndicates
  • Operation of financial processes and data flows
  • Completion of month and quarter end balance sheet reconciliations including: technical reserves; the LCA; technical balances; and inter-company balances
  • Resolution of month and quarter end review points
  • Review and clearance of daily and monthly items on financial interfaces
  • Oversee posting daily cash movements inclims; investment transactions; and Lloyd’s signing messages
  • Investigation and resolution of unsupported or unreconciled balances
  • Development of controls and processes over the integrity of the general ledger balances. Establish and maintain process documentation
  • Ad-hoc production of reconciliations and analysis for stakeholders, capital providers and auditors
  • Assist in the continual improvement of the financial systems and processes to include automation of core reconciliations
  • Assist other team members on other syndicates at peak times when the workload allows

Essential/Desirable Skills and Attributes


  • Excellent general ledger applications and database querying tool skills
  • Proven reconciliation skills including data manipulation and problem solving
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel
  • Deadline focused with good organisational and time management skills
  • Conscientious, with a positive work ethic and an enquiring mind
  • Qualified, ACA, ACCA or equivalent


  • Experience of using Sun general ledger and Q&A
  • Knowledge and experience of Insurance accounting
  • Knowledge of underwriting systems
  • Good written and oral communication
  • PowerPoint, Outlook and Word
