Job Purpose Summary:
  • Responsible for the completion and management of the Syndicate Finance function, to ensure all reporting, systems, cash flow is delivered in a controlled and timely manner, working closely with the Head of Syndicate Finance and Group Finance Director to effect change and development.
  • Leadership of the day-to-day Syndicate financial reporting both internally and externally with oversight from the Head of Syndicate Finance. Communication and dissemination of the agreed finance strategies, business priorities, operating models, and relevant procedures and standards.
  • Hands-on approach to executing key responsibilities and liaise with different parts of the business.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
    • Clearly communicate and drive team performance through effective leadership, ensuring company’s Syndicate strategy and business plans are widely communicated and understood.

External Reporting
    • Ensure all Lloyd’s returns are submitted on time and right first time.
    • Build robust controls, audit files and analytics to support all Lloyd’s returns.
    • Extensive knowledge of the Lloyd’s reporting requirements and produce the following:
    • Syndicate annual/underwriting report and accounts
    • All overseas regulatory returns
    • Syndicate tax returns
    • Input into the non-technical SBF figures


Internal Reporting
    • Develop and maintain processes for efficient management reporting of financial results.
    • Ensure financial results are presented accurately and on time.
    • Develop informed commentary on financial reports.
    • Ensure a robust control environment is built, maintained, and improvements implemented.


Team Management
    • Help set objectives for the Syndicate team with the Head of Syndicate Finance and ensure that team members are supported appropriately to deliver these objectives. • Assess resourcing needs and make suitable recommendations to management, as necessary.
    • Embrace business change and challenge the status quo where appropriate.
    • Manage the team on a day-to-day basis, establishing workflow priorities and achieving required service levels.
    • Foster high performance working within the team and recognise achievements.
    • Plan and distribute workloads appropriately.


Risk Management
    • Accountable for the effective management of owned risks or controls. Develop these controls to ensure there is appropriate governance on financial processes.
    • Work with the Finance leadership to ensure that risks associated with own role are understood and managed.
    • Assist in identifying and implementing processes to control risks particularly within your own role.
    • Responsible for reporting any existing or new risks, as well as significant control failings/weaknesses or events that may arise, to the Risk team or your manager.


  • Excellent level of syndicate accounting knowledge and double entry.
  • Excellent understanding of systems and data.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
