1. Description

The Underwriting Assistant supports the underwriting teams in writing business on behalf of the company, the capacity providers, and other stakeholders. The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for the administration of risks, capturing risk data in the company’s administration system, preparing renewal and quote information, and any other task that supports the underwriters in the underwriting process.

Reports to Senior Terrorism and Senior Property Underwriter’s.

 

3. Key Responsibilities

The major areas of activity undertaken by the Underwriting Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing quote information
  • Inputting risk data into the underwriting system at all stages of the risk assessment and underwriting process
  • Maintaining underwriting documentation and information records
  • Preparing renewal information for underwriters and issuing renewal notices
  • Chasing outstanding premiums
  • Distributing underwriting reports to stakeholders
  • Requesting missing information from brokers
  • Ensuring all underwriting support tasks are carried out in a timely manner
  • Engaging with underwriters to develop and enhance workflows and processes
  • Continuous improvement of the underwriting administration process

 

4. Specific Responsibilities

Underwriting

  • Processing of New Business, Renewals, and Mid-Term Adjustments
  • Maintaining underwriting documentation and information records
  • Complete sanctions check
  • Complete flood and virtual site checks on all property risks via multiple systems
  • Produce and complete the Property Underwriting file checklist
  • Ensure electronic files are created for Property & Terrorism underwriters
  • Issuing renewal notices
  • Chase brokers for various underwriting information, inc. but not limited to; Statements of facts, ERN’s and other material info required
  • Maintaining a dairy system for chasing of outstanding underwriter info required from brokers
  • Creating and monitoring multi-asset risk rating via excel spreadsheets
  • Log all quotes and declinatures on the New Business Report
  • Produce policy documentation in a timely manner to the brokers. Monitor and manage capacity providers claims system
  • Assist Underwriters in exposure monitoring and reporting
  • Scan and securely destroy physical underwriting files to complete paperless filing process.
  • Assist in preparation of all binder renewals
  • Conduct regular file audits to ensure compliance with Binding Authorities and business has been placed to the correct binders

 

5. Stakeholder management
  • Conduct business relationships in a professional manner conducive with the values of the company
  • Build productive working relationships with the other members of the Occam Underwriting team
  • Primary point of contact and interface with system provider for development and project requirements

 

6. Skills and Competencies
  • An understanding of the underwriting process
  • An understanding of the operation of the (re)insurance markets and Terrorism sector
  • Knowledge of market wordings and clauses
  • Strong client liaison and business development skills
  • Strong interpersonal skill
  • Strong skills in Excel and Microsoft office
  • General knowledge of business operations and administration
  • Good understanding and application of compliance and FCA regulation
  • Negotiation skills

 

7. Education and Experience
  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • CII qualification or willingness to complete
  • Preferred if candidate has prior property underwriting experience
