1. Description

The Underwriting Operations Administrator supports and services the underwriting teams, the capacity providers, and other stakeholders. The Underwriting Operations Administrator is responsible for the administration of risks, capturing risk data in the company’s administration system, and for the continuous improvement of the underwriting administration process.

Reports to the Underwriting Administration Manager

 

3. Key Responsibilities

The major areas of activity for the Underwriting Operations Administrator include:

  • Inputting risk data into the underwriting system at all stages of the risk assessment and underwriting process
  • Managing underwriting documentation
  • Establishing workflows and processes
  • Continuous improvement of the underwriting administration process
  • Project development of the underwriting system to meet the changing needs of the business

 

4. Specific Responsibilities
4.1 Underwriting controls
  • Timely and accurate capture of risk data in the company’s administration system
  • Ensure that underwriting files are complete and contain all relevant documents
  • Run monthly bordereaux for capacity providers
  • Carry out sanctions checks and licence checks on insured entities and territories
  • Liaise with underwriting teams and finance to monitor the timely receipt of underwriting data
  • Liaise with underwriting teams and finance to address data deficiencies and related issues e.g., tax schedules and premium discrepancies
  • Take reasonable steps to adhere to agreed processes and timescales
4.2 Continuous improvement
  • Agree and implement opportunities for the continuous improvement of the underwriting administration process and system
  • Agree and implement modifications to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Interface with system providers and internal and external technical specialists to overcome issues and continually improve the system
4.3 Project
  • Participate in system-related project work to respond to significant changes and structural development of the business

 

5. Stakeholder management
  • Conduct business relationships in a professional manner conducive with the values of the company
  • Build productive working relationships with the other members of the company’s team
  • Interface with system providers for system development work

 

6. Skills and Competencies
  • A general understanding of the underwriting process
  • A general understanding of the operation of the (re)insurance markets
  • A general understanding of underwriting documentation from quote to bound slip
  • A general understanding of the Lloyd’s and London Market requirements and BAA administration
  • Experience of maintaining insurance underwriting systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal skill
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Analytical thinking and numeracy

 

7. Education and Experience
  • Educated to GCSE A level or equivalent
  • CII qualification
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a data capture or relevant administrative role
