The company specialises in the management of discontinued insurance and reinsurance portfolios. Formed in 2020, the managing agency has assumed responsibility for a number of run-off insurance portfolios.

They are seeking an Underwriting Operations Technician to join their team on a fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. You will take responsibility for ensuring that all policy administration tasks are carried out accurately and efficiently, and ensure that our data facilitates the collection of premiums due to syndicates under our management. This role will also include limited underwriting authority for non-material endorsements.

The role will require a dynamic candidate who thrives in a changing environment and has relevant operational experience within the Lloyds Market.

They offer hybrid working, with the successful applicant expected to attend the London office approximately 40% of the time, or more should business requirements dictate.


Key responsibilities
  • Report to and support the Underwriting Operations Manager by ensuring timely and accurate reporting within the Operations team, supporting the Underwriting function.
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in the use of management information systems to be able to understand the data and analyse any trends. Ensure consistent monthly reporting against all Key Performance Indicators.
  • Monitor data quality through Data Quality Dashboard and various reports, ensuring Lloyd’s Oversight Principles, internal Key Performance Indicators, and Service Level Agreements are adhered to.
  • Analysis and manipulation of data to provide support for Credit Control activity.
  • Production of data for regulatory returns.
  • Liaise with outsourcing partners to ensure prompt query resolution. Provide guidance and training where required.
  • Support the credit control process through data interrogation and query resolution within the Underwriting systems.
  • Manage the ingestion of Lloyds signing messages and monthly close process.
  • Develop knowledge of key in-house Underwriting Systems working towards a subject matter expert.
  • Provide assistance to the underwriter in managing non-material endorsements.
  • Be proactively involved with the company and syndicate projects to assist with process improvements and embed new systems and tools.
  • High level of skill and ability to read slips and endorsements and identify the key features.
  • Provide professional and prompt service to all external stakeholders.
  • Be a key point of contact for all internal stakeholders and functions including, but not limited to, Underwriting, Exposure Management, Underwriting Controls, Claims, DUA, and Compliance.
  • Undertake additional ad hoc duties and projects as required on a flexible basis.


Skills & experience profile
  • Understanding of Lloyd’s Market insurance principles & previous experience with slips & endorsements.
  • Good numeric and analytical skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with running and refining (front-end) reports with support from MI team.
  • Underwriting System knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Lloyds Market Reporting Systems.
  • Computer literate with intermediate minimum, but advanced Excel preferred, with an understanding of other office packages.
  • Self-starter with a pro-active approach and able to work independently.
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Flexible approach to working in a demanding and dynamic environment.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise.
  • Good team working ethic with excellent customer service approach.
